BRIEFING

THE ROOM AS AN INTERFACE
FOR INTERACTION

Why use rooms as interfaces for interaction? Easy, humans are spending most of their lifetime being inside a room. So you are inside a room while working, studying and working out and of course most importantly when you‘re home.

To demonstrate the possibilities of an interactive room we chose the application of an interactive goal wall. Like an analog one, the aim of the goal wall is to hit as many targets as possible within a limited time frame or a limitation of shots. The room itself is build to make the user feel the whole soccer experience.

The project has been realized via two Microsoft Xbox Kinects, which are responsible for user and object tracking as well as voice and gesture commands. The interface of the application has been build with the user in focus to provide a great user experience, so the main menu of the application is build radial to have short ways from one element to another to guarantee quick usage without getting tired or exhausted.

ONBOARDING

The interface itself is kept minimal to show only what is needed to prevent confusion and misunderstandings. The code behind the application is open source, so everyone is allowed to use and manipulate the application to create completely new scenarios. The whole technology is of course not restricted or limited to a goal wall application and can be used for anything else. For example interactive data visualizations or other types of games.

GESTURES & FEEDBACK

The whole application is voice & gesture based which means, that the user can be recognized by raising his hand. His hand will be shown inside the application to provide a visual feedback. Using his hand the user can navigation through the application by moving around and pushing the buttons. But this is not the only way to navigate. You can use your voice commands to trigger every option inside the game. Yet this is still a goal wall so the user has also the chance to shoot at the buttons, triggers and options. Three ways for interaction to please and motivate the user.
